Muzzle your Mindreader

mindreader

Many of us suffer from know-it-all syndrome. Some call it intuition, but it really is just another name for unsubstantiated mindreading. The fact is… you CAN’T know what someone is thinking or how someone is feeling. Just as it is your job to be the highest authority on yourself, so to is it your date’s job to be his authority on himself. So, when you are dating, it is critical to NOT make assumptions. You see, when we do, we unintentionally weave in our own experiences into our conclusions, which are usually inaccurate assertions. This explains why so often our “hunches” are wrong. Therefore, it is always best to clarify what we are taking in – our observations of his words or behavior – with questions. This allows the relationship to bloom on a foundation of clear, not suspected information… which in turn, allows us to make much better decisions.

Great point! Rather than assume, we should check out our interpretations of the other person’s communication. Postpone judgment and remain curious.

You nailed it! Being curious is such a healthy quality! As is nonjudgment. Thanks for sharing your wisdom Patrick! xo
